Setting Up Your First Project in Omics Studio

This guide combines several key actions—creating a project, uploading a dataset, and launching a study—to help new users set up their first project in Omics Studio. By following these steps you’ll have a complete environment ready for exploration and analysis.

1. Create a new project

  1. From the Workspace menu, select Projects & Studies to access your project list.
  2. In the Projects header, click the plus (+) button to open the Create a New Project dialog.
  3. Enter a descriptive Project Title. Names such as Liver RNA-seq 2025 or Metabolomics Pilot help you recognise the project later.
  4. Click Create Project. The modal closes and your project appears in the project list.

2. Add a description (optional)

With the project selected, a details panel appears on the right. In the Description box you can add notes about the project’s goals, sample groups, or any relevant context. After typing, click Save to store the description.

3. Upload a dataset

  1. Navigate to the Datasets section in the sidebar. The page shows existing datasets and a usage meter.
  2. Click the plus (+) button in the Dataset header to open the Create Dataset dialog. Provide a descriptive name and drag and drop your CSV files (expression matrices, statistics, feature metadata, sample metadata) into the dashed upload area.
  3. Ensure the total upload size does not exceed 150 MB. Once files are listed and the upload size appears, click Upload to create the dataset. See the separate Uploading Datasets guide for detailed instructions.

4. Create your first study

  1. Return to Projects & Studies and expand your project row. In the Studies header, click the plus (+) button to open the Create a New Study dialog.
  2. Enter a Study Title, select the dataset you just uploaded from the drop-down, and click Next.
  3. Select all relevant files (expression matrix, statistics files, feature metadata, sample metadata) in the Select Files step. When the counter shows the correct number of files, click Create Study. The new study appears under your project.

5. Organise and analyse

  • Your project now contains a dataset and a study. You can open the study to configure analysis preferences and run enrichment analyses.
  • Use the Description field and project naming conventions to keep multiple projects organised.
  • If you have more datasets or studies to add, repeat the steps above.

By completing these steps—project creation, dataset upload, and study setup—you’ve fully established your first project in Omics Studio and are ready to perform functional analyses on your data.
